In the current economic climate (July 2020), there are a lot of members of the project and transformation community that are either out of work, or feel at risk. Projects have been cut, budgets slashed, roles made redundant and recruitment temporarily frozen as a direct or indirect result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many people don’t know where to turn for support in getting their career on track or just the steps needed and actions that they can take to move forwards with clarity and purpose.
The Mentoring Programme was devised to help members of the transformation community to strike up mentor/mentee relationships, offering up opportunities for mentors to give something back to the community and develop their own skills, as well as providing mentees with the opportunity to seek guidance, support, knowledge and coaching from somebody in the transformation community.
Many famous and successful people have benefited from having mentors:
- Steve Jobs mentored Mark Zuckerberg
- Warren Buffet mentored Bill Gates
- Christian Dior mentored Yves-Saint-Laurent
- Maya Angelou mentored Oprah Winfrey
- Ray Charles mentored Quincy Jones
The list is long and crosses all walks of life and career paths.
We have Mentors of all levels signed up to the programme from seasoned Project Managers and Business Analysts, all the way up to Transformation Directors and CEOs. All willing to give up their time for free to mentor people who are keen to progress their careers.
Mentors each commit to mentoring 1 individual via a telephone or video call at least once every 2 weeks for a minimum period of 2 weeks.
Both mentors and mentees set out in their applications what skills they have or want to develop, what level they are and what level of person they want to work with to help create a match. Both parties then have the option to accept the match or not before the formal email introduction is done and the ownership then moves to the mentor and mentee to kick of the partnership.
The mentor and mentee will work together to agree how the relationship will work, frequency of contact, method of communication, what professional goals the mentee wants to achieve, and then work together to help achieve those objectives.
As well as the mentoring process, there is a community website with lots of information on how to get the most out of mentoring, additional resources and articles on all things related to projects and transformation in general, as well as an area to meet other mentors and mentees and seek any other support and guidance from peers in the community.
If you apply and don’t get successfully matched up front, you can still access the community website for that additional support. You can also reapply as we bring on new mentors or existing mentors become free.
And all of this will cost you nothing.
